Garment Details: The French Smock is a casual classic that comes with a huge range of design options which include: a button up placket OR zip fastening, different bib shapes, an optional trim for the curved bib, optional patch pockets, 2 different lengths and options for thick or thin fabrics for the cuff, sleeve placket and neck binding (thin fabrics can use the smaller pattern pieces, thicker fabrics will want to use the wider pattern pieces.

With this pattern you’ll be able to create your own truly unique garment by selecting your favourite features and making something that’s personal to you.

The PDF Pattern comes with in depth written instructions, an A4 tile copy, US Letter tiles and an A0 version. This pattern also comes with PDF Layers so you can choose to view only the sizes you need when printing.

Sizing: This is a multi-size pattern, including sizes 4-28. Sizes run true to UK sizing - full sizing details, including finished garment measurements can be found here.

Fit notes: These trousers are slightly lower on the high waisted spectrum, sitting comfortably above the hip but not too high up the waist. They are cut to fit neatly on the body & hips and then flare slightly on the thigh and taper in again at the ankle.

Fabric Suggestions: Linen, poplin, lawn, lightweight denim and twill for a 'blouse' version. For a heavier 'outdoor layer' version you can use corduroy, denim, wool suit or a lightweight wool felt. 

Fabric requirements: 

Trims required: Matching thread, 5 x buttons (around 1.5/2.5cm) or 2 x buttons (around 1.5/2cm) and a 16-18cm zip, thread in a colour of your choice and about 40cm of good quality fusing.

Skill level: This pattern is suitable for  intermediate sewers.

Construction techniques: Front button placket, optional zip fastening (for more experienced makers), full sleeve with cuff and plackets, flat binding, run & fell seams and topstitching details.

You will receive both an A4, A0 & US Letter size digital pattern along with step by step sewing instructions. You can either print your pattern at home on an A4 printer or send the A0 digital copy to a printing shop (there are many that do this for a very reasonable price). If you decide to print in A4 you will need to piece the tiles together to make one huge page. There is a guide on how to do this included in the instructions.
